IT'S FORE THE KIDS - BUILDING TRADES UNIONS RAISE $25,000 FOR CHARITY

BC’s Building Trades Unions have just raised $25,000 for charity at their 8th annual golf tournament.

“This has been another extremely successful event for us,” said BC and Yukon Territory Building & Construction Trades Council Executive Director Wayne Peppard. “All of our affiliates are delighted to be able to help out in this way.”

The golf tournament, held July 13th at Newlands Golf & County Club in Langley, attracted a full field of 165 participants representing business and labour. Twenty-two hole sponsorships at $1,000 each accounted for the biggest boost to the fundraiser.

Special thanks was given to the following hole sponsors: Allied Hydro Council, Caroline, Gibson & Barnes Law Office, Cement Masons & Plasterers Union 919, Community Savings Credit Union, Concert Properties Ltd., Construction Industry Training Institute, Construction Labour Relations Association, Construction & Specialized Workers’ 1611, CUPE BC, G&F Financial Group, IBEW Provincial Council, Labourers Int’l Union, Operating Engineers 115, Pacific Blue Cross, Painters & Allied Trades 38, Plumbers & Pipefitters 170, Printcraft Solutions, Refrigeration Workers 516, Sheet Metal Workers 280, Teamsters 213, VanCity Savings Credit Union and W.E. Insurance/W.E. Travel.

Golfers had a chance to win a 2006 Harley Davidson, a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe and two chances to win $10,000 in cash. Additional fundraising at the tournament came from a putting contest, a “Beat the Pro” challenge, a live auction and a JAZZ golf clubs raffle.

“The tournament proceeds will be donated to the UBC Centre for Research in Childhood Diabetes, the leading centre in Canada for research in pediatric diabetes,” said Peppard, “as well as Variety – The Children’s Charity, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to raising funds to benefit children who have special needs.”

“This tournament was “fore the kids” and we are proud to direct our funds to support both UBC Research and Variety,” Peppard said.

The Building Trades Council, representing more than 35,000 qualified tradespeople and apprentices, looks forward to making another success of next year’s fundraising events.
