BUILDING TRADES APPLAUD TRANSLINK RAV APPROVAL
Vancouver… The Building Trades Council is praising the Translink Board for its decision to go ahead with the SNC-Lavalin/Serco bid for RAV construction. The Building Trades Council represents over 35,000 highly skilled trades and crafts workers across the province. Building trades unions have previously provided the workforce for the construction of both the Expo and Millenium Skytrain lines.
“This has been a long process and we are happy that Translink has given the final approval for the new rapid transit line to Richmond and the Vancouver Airport,” reacted Wayne Peppard, Executive Director of the BCYT-BCTC, upon hearing the Translink decision.
“This is a tremendous step forward for infrastructure development for the Lower Mainland that will serve our needs for decades to come,” Peppard said. “The Building Trades are prepared to help and facilitate SNC-Lavalin/Serco in any way we can. We have the qualified trades workers, training facilities and services, workplace health and safety plans and experience at negotiating all encompassing project agreements to ensure on-time and on-budget production,” Peppard commented.
“The collaborative approach that has helped to build the rapid transit system that we enjoy today is a model that has ensured quality workmanship, training and safe worksites. We look forward to helping SNC-Lavalin/Serco in any way we can in the coming months,” Peppard added.
