BUILDING TRADES URGE GVRD DIRECTORS TO SUPPORT TRANSLINK PLAN
Vancouver...The Building and Construction Trades Council has added its voice to the many unions that are urging the Greater Vancouver Regional District Directors to support the Ten Year Transportation Outlook and Three Year Funding Strategy that will be voted on tomorrow at the GVRD Board meeting.
“The 14 construction unions, representing 35,000 workers, under the umbrella of the Building Trades Council unanimously support Translink’s Ten Year Transportation Outlook and Three-Year Funding Strategy. Building Trades unions are worried transportation infrastructure will suffer a serious setback if the Translink plan is delayed any longer. We need to build a transportation system that can deliver people, goods and services around the Lower Mainland in an efficient manner” Peppard said.
“With so much construction work taking place in the lower mainland over the next six years, Building Trades unions look forward to sitting down with GVRD Directors to see how we can best offer our skills and expertise. Building Trades unions are able to deliver safe worksites, full training programs, local hiring practices and compliance with all government policies and regulations to provide efficient and quality construction; on-time and on-budget” Peppard added.
