CONSTRUCTION UNIONS ORGANIZE DONATION OF OVER $30,000 OF PROVISIONS TO FOOD BANK
BURNABY… The Vancouver-New Westminster and District Building and Construction Trades Council has joined with 23 different construction unions, councils, union service associations and individuals to organize a donation with a total value of over $31,000.00 worth of food to the Greater Vancouver Christmas Food Bank Campaign. The donation, one of the single largest annual contributions to the Food Bank Society, was delivered on December 13, 2003.
The value of this year’s collection surpasses last year by $2,000. “The donation includes 15,928 individual units or packages of food,” according to Don Doerksen, President of the Vancouver-New Westminster & District Building and Construction Trades Council. The Council invites other unions to pitch in to the annual Food Bank Drive.
Contributions for this year’s Food Bank Drive were received from the: Allied Hydro Council of B.C., BCYT Building & Construction Trades Council, BC Highways & Related Construction Council, Boilermakers Lodge 359, Bricklayers Union Local 2, Construction & Specialized Workers’ Union Local 1611, Elevator Constructors Union Local 82, Floorlayers Union Local 1541, Mr. & Mrs. Dwight Harris, Heat & Frost Insulators Union Local 118, Hotel, Restaurant & Culinary Workers Union Local 40, Ironworkers Union Local 97, Operating Engineers Union Local 115, Pacific Blue Cross, Pacific Region Maintenance Council, Painters & Allied Trades District Council 38, Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 170, Quality Control Council, Sheet Metal Workers & Roofers Union Local 280, Teamsters Union Local 31, Teamsters Union Local 213 and the Van-New West Building & Construction Trades Council.
H.Y. Louie provided the food at wholesale prices and went to their suppliers to substantially increase the overall value of the donation.
