Vancouver …. Affiliates and friend of the BC and Yukon Territory Building and Construction Trades Council have raised over $25,000 for the Variety …and UBC Diabetes Research at their 9th Annual Golf Tournament. Included in that amount is $8,800 that was collected at the annual Dollars Against Diabetes (D.A.D’s) day collection. “This has been our biggest fundraising success ever” according Building Trades Executive Director, Mr. Wayne Peppard. “Construction unions will contribute more than $25,000 to help find a cure for diabetes and assist special needs children this year.”
The golf tournament held on July 13th at Newlands Golf Course, in Langley, BC, attracted 164 participants. This year we had a record number of Hole Sponsors at $1,000 each, which accounted for the biggest boost to the fundraiser. Special thanks to all Sponsors!! Additional fund-raising came from a raffle, a 50/50 draw, a live auction, a putting contest, and other challenges.
“The Building Trades proceeds will be donated to the UBC Diabetes Research and Variety - The Children’s Charity” according to Peppard. “UBC Diabetes Research is the breakthrough in the transplant of pancreatic islets has given hope to many people who suffer from diabetes. The cure is free from insulin injections” Peppard said. “Variety – The Children’s Charity of BC is a non-profit charitable organization with a mission to raise funds for the purpose of inspiring hope, enriching lives and building a better future BC’s children” according to Peppard.
The Building Trades look forward to next year’s fundraising for diabetes and special needs children. In the meantime charity fundraising will turn towards the annual drive for the Food Bank donation for Christmas.
